ABOUT ME
Freelancing from the New York City area since 2004, I have covered chemistry and materials science for Science News, worked in-house at both Discover and Popular Science, and served as a content developer and research coordinator for the award-winning permanent astronomy exhibits at Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles.

I have a Ph.D. in chemistry, an undergraduate degree in German, and completed a Fulbright fellowship doing organic chemistry research in Germany. My years as a researcher gave me a deep understanding of the process of science and taught me how to solve complex problems. Teaching chemistry to undergraduates and working as an informal science educator gave me the tools to explain difficult concepts.

I also have TV experience: I appeared on the Discovery Science Channel's Best Science Moments 2007 and was an AAAS Mass Media fellow at WNBC-TV in New York in 2004.

I am a member of the National Association of Science Writers, the American Society of Journalists and Authors, the Society of Environmental Journalists, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and am a past co-president of the Science Writers in New York (SWINY).
